- You shall have no other gods before Me.
- You shall not make for yourself a carved image--any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.
- You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.
- Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy, as the Lord your God commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your ox, nor your donkey, nor any of your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates, that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you. And remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and the Lord your God brought you out from there by a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm; therefore the Lord your God commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.
- Honor your father and your mother, as the Lord your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
- You shall not murder.
- You shall not commit adultery.
- You shall not steal.
- You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
- You shall not covet your neighbor's wife; and you shall not desire your neighbor's house, his field, his male servant, his female servant, his ox, his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor's.
Ten Commandments - Other Places in Bible
Some have said that since the Ten Commandments are found in the Bible in the Old Testament (Old Covenant), that they no longer apply after Jesus came to earth and died which established the New Covenant (New Testament).
This is simply not true. Here some other places where reference to the Ten Commandments is made in the Bible including places in the New Testament:
- Luke 4:8 - Jesus referring to Commandment 1
- Mark 2:23-3:26 - Jesus refers to Commandment 4
- Mark 10:18-19 - Jesus refers to Commandments
- Mark 12:28-31 - Jesus refers to Commandments
- Mark 15:3-6 - Jesus refers to Commandment 5
There is no doubt that the Ten Commandments carries forward from the Old Covenant (Old Testament) to the New Covenant (New Testament). In other words, humans today are bound by the Ten Commandments. Period.
Ten Commandments - Violations Defined
Lets first compare our conduct to the standards set by the Ten Commandments. Fasten your safety belt. You (like myself) have probably broken many of them.
Commandment 1:
You shall have no other gods before me.
Have you ever thought your answer in life was:
- a good-looking, talented sports figure?

- a totally stunning supermodel?
- an incredibly cool car?
- a beautiful house?
If so, you have broken Commandment One.
Commandment 2:
You shall not make unto yourself any graven image
Have you ever made or created something and thought it was good enough to focus on? Something like:
- a job where you excelled beyond belief

- a picture you took
- a song you wrote
If so, you have broken Commandment Two
Commandment 3:

Have you ever, even in your worst anger, said:
- God @$%^&*!
- Jesus!
- Jeez!
- Ever used God's or Jesus' name as a curse?
If so, you have broken Commandment Three
Commandment 4:
Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
- Have you ever skipped going to Church on the Sabbath (which is from sunset Friday to sunset on Saturday and not is not on Sunday which is commonly thought of as the Sabbath)? If so, you have broken Commandment 4.
Commandment 5:
Honor thy Father and thy Mother.
- Have you ever disobeyed either of your parents when they were telling you to not do something wrong?
- Have you ever done something bad that brought dishonor to either of your parents?
If so, you have broken Commandment 5.
Commandment 6:
Thou shalt not kill.
- Have you ever killed someone without it being because you were defending yourself?
If so, you have broken Commandment 6.
Commandment 7:
Thou shalt not commit adultery.
- Have you ever looked at a member of the opposite sex or at a member of the same sex, with thoughts of having sex with them? Or have you actually had sex with someone without being married to them?
If so, you have broken Commandment 7.
Commandment 8:
Thou shalt not steal.
- Have you ever stolen anything, from anyone, ever?
If so, you have broken Commandment 8.

If so, you have broken Commandment 9.
Commandment 10:
Thou shalt not covet anything that belongs to someone else.
- Have you ever wished you had someone else's house?
- Have you ever wished you had someone else's spouse?
- Have you ever wished you had something that belongs to someone else?
If so, you have broken Commandment 10.
Ten Commandments - Being Forgiven For Violations
As you can tell by the above, everyone has violated the Ten Commandments. I know I have.
If you are a born-again Christian you are forgiven. You may want to skip forward to:
Ten Commandments - Instructions on Using Them
If you are not a born-again Christian, you may want to continue reading if you want forgiveness for violating the Ten Commandments.
In the Old Testament, God became so angry and fed up with humans continuiing to violate His Commandments that he flooded the world and wiped out everything except Noah, his family and a male and female of each living creature.
After He did this, He promised to never do it again. (Isaiah 54:9) Yet God still required a sacrifice for the sin of humans. So in His infinite wisdom, He provided a part of Himself to be sacrificed: Jesus Christ.
There is only One Way to go to heaven: Accept Jesus.
For a more convincing explanation, continue reading...
It may seem harsh that we are all going to hell without accepting Jesus but God does not think like us. His ways are higher than ours. His thoughts are higher than ours. (Isaiah 55:9)
As such, God provided a path for humans to get to heaven. Here is how it works:
God sent Jesus Christ to earth to save human beings from being condemned into hell upon their death on earth. All people that accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will not perish in hell but will instead have eternal life in Heaven with God. (see John 3:16)
Christians are people who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. When Jesus was crucified on the Cross, His blood was shed so that it would be available to all human beings as a covering that protects us from God seeing us directly.
Instead, as a born again Christian, God does not see us and our sin but instead sees the Blood of His Son. In this way, He can not see our sin but instead see His Son.
Any human being that accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and repents from their sins is covered by the shed blood of Jesus.
Accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior makes a human being born again. Not born again in the sense of leaving your mother's womb to be born on earth but instead being born again in your spirit.
This blood covering literally prevents God from seeing our sins when we die. Instead God sees the blood of His Son Jesus Christ and we are accepted into Heaven instead of being condemned for all eternity to hell.
God can not
even cast his eyes upon sin. So our choices are to either accept Jesus and have our sins covered by His shed blood or to have God cast us into hell when we die.
With the shed blood of Jesus covering us, Jesus is our lawyer in God's court. Without Jesus we are on our own and God will judge us for our sins and cast us into hell.
The Good News is that you can freely and easily accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.
The choice is yours.
Please accept Jesus. Thank you.
